Myth:
Following the American Revolution the United States established a system where its people could directly choose who would represent them as president.
Myth Explained:
After the american revolution the people of the United States didn't want hierarchy anymore so they created a system where the people could vote on who would represent them as president. we learned that the people would have a right to say who they wanted as president, that isn't the way it actually happened.
Evidence and what it says about the myth:
Don't Know Much about History- What this evidence said was that the founding fathers would choose automatically who would be the first president. the founding fathers choose George Washington to be the first president. the quote that states this says, "when the Founding Fathers decided to write the constitution and figure out the rules for electing a president, there was only one certainty : George Washington would be the first president". this evidence clearly states that in the myth is false because instead of letting people decide who they wanted as president, the way it was taught, the founding fathers didn't let the people choose who they wanted as their first president.
The Constitution and New Republic- what "The Constitution and New Republic" said about this myth is that the electoral college didn't give the people the right to vote who they wanted to represent them as president. the reason why the electoral college didn't let the people vote directly was because they were afraid of mob rule which would cause chaos, also they didn't want democracy. the quote that states this says “Rather than having the people elect a president directly, the delegates decided to assign each state a number of electors equal to the total of that state’s representatives and senators. This electoral college system was instituted because the delegates at Philadelphia feared that too much democracy might lead to Mob Rule.” this states that this myth is false because the people weren't granted the right to vote because they felt that democracy would spread.
The American Pageant- what "The American Pageant" said about out myth was that the people wouldn't be able to directly choose who they wanted to represent them as president. instead each state would get a certain amount of votes, and then after they got a certain amount of votes they would vote a representative and that representative would vote for the people, and that representative would choose who they wanted as senators. the senator would represent the people and they would choose who they wanted as president. this says that our myth is false/busted because the people wouldn't directly choose who they wanted as president.
Conclusion: This Myth is BUSTED!!!
the myth i busted was, following the American Revolution the United States established a system where its people could directly choose who would represent them as president. this myth is busted because our evidence stated that the people didn't have the right to vote directly. instead the people would vote for who they wanted to represent them and that person would decide who the president should be. also we can say that this myth is busted because the evidence also stated that the people didn't have a right to choose who they wanted as their first president. our last piece of evidence stated that the founding fathers didn't give the people a right to vote because they were afraid of monarchy and they were afraid of mob rule.
